LYPH’s SINGLE BREASTED MAC WITH MULTI POCKET FUNCTIONS

THIS IS LYPH CLOTHING’S FALL 2017 MAC. WE HAVE TEAMED UP TWO EXPERT TECHNICAL FABRICS. THE BASE FABRC IS A MICRO RIPSTOP WITH RUBBER PATTERNED BACKING. THE POCKETS ARE MADE OUT OF MEMORY NYLON TO GIVE THE GARMENT THAT LYPH CLOTHING TWIST.

BOTH LYPH FABRICS ARE FUNCTIONING TECHNICAL FABRICS.

Creative director Frederick Edmondson had recently, in between living young and play hard gone off to work with UCLAN students helping boost their fashion knowledge and skill. It turned out it was Frederick that was inspired by what he saw. A young designer that had been following the punk movement and applied graffiti to his Dr Martens. ‘We immediately saw the geniuses and a hip idea within such a thing, it’s going o be the base layer to push out design ideas for Spring 18, a fish tail parka for LYPH clothing’s spring 2018 range springs to mind’. 😉

LYPH X VOGUE MARCH EDITION

LYPH pop’s up in Vogue once again with a new interchanging look for the Vogue March 2017 eddition. LYPH’s Model where’s pencil shirt , shirt a and woman’s trench coat. All pockets are interchangeable and can be swapped.

LYPH X SUPER MARCHE

LYPH clothing teamed up with Supermarché to create and merge two types of military fashion. We wanted to take a summer (french military) trench coat and warm it up with cold war Russian inners creating seven all year round coats. Vintage clothing plays a key role in LYPH’s development and thought process. Supermarché have the same thought process; to create beautiful chaos. To develop commercial product that isn’t boring, to push the boundary on function and inter playful modular parts that can switch between menswear and womenswear. The French outer has a two way working placket what means it will fasten both on the mens & women’s side. The internal draw cord allows for perfect fitting on man and woman. The inner works as a snug fitting garment or as a loose relaxed fit. This collaboration shows LYPH’s commitment to push the boundaries on what it practical, what is functional, what is beauty. Poaching Pockets…

For FALL 2017,  LYPH takes on the poachers pocket applying it to our poacher shirt. A mixed fabric (cotton twill / oxford cotton shirting) shirt with utilitarian front pockets up top teamed with hunting type pockets on the bottom.

Feeling the shirt needed balancing slightly we decided, ‘apply a poachers pocket to the back body panel’.

I had been reading Danny the champion of the world by Roald Dahl, a story about Danny and his poaching father at the time, so it seemed time to admit that although I have 2 Barbour jackets with poachers, I very rarely use them.

I admit they look extremely hip and cool when worn at inner city art circles but whats the real story behind the poachers pocket.

For you non hunters, a poacher is someone who illegally steals animals, fish or plants, usually for food. Subterfuge is important for the penalty for game theft is high. Many sub plots of 19th and early 20th century Brit Lit focus on poachers alluding Mi’lords gamekeeper. Perhaps this November 1959 Field and Stream review of Lady Chatterley’s Lover will remind you:
Although written many years ago, Lady Chatterley’s Lover a fictional account of the day-to-day life of an English game-keeper is still of considerable interest to outdoor-minded readers, as it contains many passages on pheasant raising, the apprehending of poachers, ways to control vermin, and other chores and duties of the professional game-keeper.

Unfortunately, one is obliged to wade through many pages of extraneous material in order to discover and savour these sidelights on the management of a Midland shooting estate, and in this reviewers opinion, the book cannot take the place of J.R. Miller’s “Practical Gamekeeper”.

To aid a poacher’s quest, full length pockets are sewn in the back of a hunters coat, usually with an opening on either side so a poacher can snatch his quarry with either hand and quickly slip it inside his coat so it is not noticed, and the poachers keeps his hands free.
I’m certain there are thousands of great stories both mythical and real life about the uses for poacher pockets,beyond holding a wet newspaper, a smuggled carton of cigarettes or a bottle of wine which is about all I can imagine. I’m game to hear yours thoughts, LYPH.

LYPH CLOTHING WAS ASKED TO TAKE PART IN VOGUE’S FEB 2017 EDITION. VOGUE WERE LOOKING FOR THE BEST OF BRITISH FOR THIER DESIGNER PROFILE PAGE. NEW UNDISCOVERED BRNDS TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS SEASON.

OF COURSE WE WERE GOING TO BE  PART OF IT, ITS VOGUE, AND QUITE FRANKLY WE LOOK DAM GOOD IN IT 😉 …

FALL  17 LYPH WANTED TO PRESENT A SHIRT THAT REMINDED THEM OF CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. CREATIVE DIRECTOR FREDERICK EDMONDSON REMEMBERS CUTTING LOG’S AND CLIPPING KINDLING WITH HIS FATHER FOR THE WINTER PILE OF WOOD, HE REMEMBERS WEARING HEAVY DUTY WORKWEAR TEAMED WITH WARM MILITARY SURPLUS GEAR OUT IN THE COLD FEB WINTER DAYS. THIS SEASON LYPH LOOKED AT CLASSIC HUNTING / WORKWEAR POCKET SHAPES TO DEVELOP THIER POACHERS SHIRT. THEY TEAMED IT WITH MILITARY CHEST POCKETS. COLOUR BLOCKING THE POCKETS BRINGS OUT THE PLAYFUL SIDE TO THE SHIRT, IT ALSO HELPED TO BLEND THE MILITARY TREND SUBTLY WITH A WORKWEAR TREND.

THE BASE LAYER OF THE SHIRT HAS A MIX FABRIC OF COTTON TWILL AND OXFORD COTTON SHIRTING. WE THINK ‘THIS GIVES A REAL SENSE OF HEAVY FALL TYPE DURABILITY’, SOMETHING THAT SITS BETTER WITH THE METAL PRESS STUD FASTENINGS.

LYPH LOOKS AT THIS SHIRT AS A REFLECTION TO CHILDHOOD MEMORIES AND HOW TWO TRENDS / IDEAS CAN SIT WITHIN THE SAME GARMENT. TO LIVE YOUNG AND PLAY HARD.

Co founder and Creative Director Frederick Edmondson has been in the rag trade for the past ten years working his way up to what any designer wants; To have true freedom in design ideas and creative control over their own brand. After working for some of the industries top fashion houses / brands Frederick and his partner (in all senses of the word) Jemma decided it was time to put pen to paper, scissors to fabric and create a modular, playful brand that sits in areas between menswear and womenswear. ‘An androgynous looking modular development’, being the founders words.

Their aim is simple, keep it Avant-garde, question it’s beauty, functionality and gender.

Jemma and Frederick grew up in the same run down seaside town, so it made perfect sense LYPH Clothing’s first collection be shot in the town of Morecambe Bay to reflect childhood memories.

Both hung out in the same areas of Morecambe when they were younger playing on arcade games, lacing up bowling shoes and playing on broken town fairground rides.

SEEK BERLIN

LYPH clothing will be taking on their first major trade show this season with a full comprehensive collection for both menswear and womenswear. LYPH clothing will be showing It’s FALL 2017 collection in Berlin at the SEEK contemporary trade show for menswear.

All pockets will have been carefully handcrafted to make sure that every pocket is detachable and interchangeable throughout the collection.

We have used the finest technical fabrics and teamed them with beautiful cotton twill / oxford cottons. Our shapes move from the relaxed fit to fitted garments this season.
